Entry-level Hiring
Entry level hiring has taken a hit in recent months. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, entry level hiring is expected to only grow 0.6% in 2026. In addition, 11% of existing companies are expected to reduce entry level hiring to include recent graduates. With the current boom of artificial intelligence (AI), it is expected that there will be a plethora of companies which will turn to AI to outsource current positions. However, there will still be major companies looking to continue their active new grad hiring programs. Presently, companies such as Netflix, Lockheed Martin, and Capital One continue their recent graduate programs with positions such as program manager and multiple IT positions.
Tips to recent graduate hire employment in 2025:
1. Tailor your Resume
Highlight your accomplishments: Relevant accomplishments should be highlighted and promoted for maximum exposure. Accomplishments such as awards, recognition, or completion of major projects should be clearly represented on your resume.
Keywords/Relevant coursework: Coursework, High Grade Point Average, Internships, or relevant experience should be clearly identified in the resume.
2. Networking Strategy
Contact alumni: This is a crucial step in finding employment. Alumni are more likely to offer an opportunity when seeking your first position because of affiliation.
Online Presence: If you haven’t already, establish a professional online presence on both LinkedIn and Handshake. Establish affiliations with professional groups which match your area of study or chosen profession.
Scrub your Online Presence: Ensure that your online presence is professional. Vulgar or controversial posts should be maintained under a private presence.
3. Location/Salary Requirements:
Be realistic: The average salary for a recent graduate is $68K, however there are wide disparities related to salary. Salary is often based on location, experience, and skill set. Be sure to research your area of study and its current salary based on location and experience. Expect that you will be required to report to the office 5 days a week. Hybrid or remote positions have reduced greatly over the last year so ensure that the chosen location is one that you wish to reside in.
